Crafty Idea: Earring Holder

I was looking for something that I could hang my casual earrings on, specifically the feather ones, because I noticed they get all messed up in a regular jewelry box, so my friend Angeline sent me a picture of something that I could make to hang earrings on.  I am not a crafty or creative type of person, so I never thought I could do it.

But it was easy!

Materials needed:

Picture frame (I used an 8x10)
Embroidery canvas, or plastic canvas, or a metal mesh material
Craft glue
A plate stand, plate easel, or frame holder

The material was extremely hard for me to find, because I have absolutely no shopping venues where I live besides Walmart and a mom and pop fabric store, but anyone with a metropolitan area should be able to find it in two seconds.

I used a firm fabric used for some sort of needlepoint, not cross stitch, because that is all they had, and it wasn't marked so I couldn't even tell you the exact name of it.  Plastic canvas would also be a great option, but I would probably go with one with smaller squares so the earrings don't fall through.

This is exactly what I bought:

Other Examples:

So first, you have to remove the glass and the back from the frame.  Then cut the material you want to use, keeping in mind it will have to be glued down.  I applied the glue on the frame, then placed the material on it.  I then placed the glass on top of where I glued it, to provide some pressure since the fabric was a bit flexible.  I sat a book on top of the glass and left it there for about half an hour.

The frame I got had metal things on the back so I pressed those onto the fabric to make sure it was held in place.

That's basically all you have to do!  Then make sure the glue is dry, and place it onto the plate stand.

Examples:

These were also impossible for me to find (did I mention I probably need to move!), but they did have a wire one, which I purchased, not knowing it was broken:

So I wasn't done after all.

I returned this broken piece and they didn't have anything else.  I was about to give up until I saw another shop that said,  "80% Off, Going out of Business Sale".  Maybe they would have something.  Sure enough, they did- a display they were using to hold necklaces.  It was huge!  Where would I have space for this???  Then I realised ohhh well, it's only taking up more space vertically, really, so I bought it anyway.

This is the end result:

I was able to bend the wires to hold the frame in even stronger.  And now I have the added bonus of having a place for necklaces too!

It might not be perfect, but I tried my best!

By the way, I know my non-makeup related posts are not popular at all, and I really don't mind.  I wanted to post it anyway because I thought it was pretty cool.

  4. Very cute, I saw something similar to this but using lines of wire instead inlaid in a photo frame but this looks even simpler to do! Brilliant.

  5. What a great idea!! I might have to try this for myself. The sad part is I don't have anything to put it on, my dresser is being stored at my parents house, and I'm just too lazy to go over and get it! It would free up a lot of space in my bathroom if I just went and got it! lol
